Notification of Upcoming Events
Out of Area Kent Tests.
Please be advised that the School is required by KCC to host Out-of-Area Kent Tests this coming Saturday (14th) Sep. At this stage final numbers have yet to be confirmed, but we do impose a limit of 100 pupils. (Based on previous years, we would expect to get the maximum permissible number.) Parents/Carers are given instructions not to arrive early and we keep our Reception closed until 09:00 hrs, but due to the distances that some travel, we do expect a number to arrive prior to that time. In order to minimise disturbance and limit parking in Deakin Leas, we will open the gates prior to this to allow parking on-site.
For the avoidance of doubt, this is not a TGS organised event and those attending are not parents or students from this School. While we do try to manage arrival and departure times and parking arrangements for dropping and collecting as best we can, we are reliant on the co-operation of those attending.
Year 7 Disco
Our Yr 7 Disco will be held on Fri 20th Sep between 7 – 9pm. Approx numbers will be 145 pupils, so we are not expecting significant traffic. Parents/Carers will be allowed to drive onto the site to pick-up and drop-off, so we do not predict additional parking in Deakin Leas.
6th Form Open Evening 2nd Oct. 17:30 – 20:30hrs
Yr 6 Open Morning Tue 8th Oct 09:30 – 12:00hrs
Yr 6 Open Morning Thu 10th October 09:30 – 12:00hrs
Yr 6 Open Evening Thu 10th October 17:30 – 20:30hrs
We have our annual series of Open Events scheduled for next month. These events are very busy and attract a significant number of people attending. Over the years we have worked hard to try and minimise the impact of these events for local residents. Measures we have introduced include:
Splitting the Yr. 6 Open Events into 3 separate dates (2 x mornings and 1 x evening)
Prohibiting on-site parking and providing a Shuttle Bus Service from Sainsbury’s Car Park
Encouraging attendees to walk or use Public Transport
Initiating a voluntary one-way system to discourage vehicles from driving down Deakin Leas (Up only)
Provision of additional staff members at the School gates and at the Baltic Road junctions with The Drive junction and Deakin Leas to promote the one-way system and prevent thoughtless parking
Releasing those students acting as guides in phases at pre-arranged collection times
These measures have had a tangible impact on improving the smooth running of these busy events, but inevitably there will be significant additional traffic – particularly on the evening events. (2nd & 10th Oct.) While we do try everything in our power to keep traffic flowing, we do have to rely on the co-operation of residents as well. Unfortunately, on a number of occasions, our staff have been subjected to verbal abuse from a minority of people over the years. We would ask for your support and understanding on these few isolated dates – thank you.
